“In the cold and snow of winter, there is a spring that waits to be …” This line from the hymn “In the Bulb, There is a Flower” comes to mind as we live in the midst of winter. It also comes to mind because I am spending time thinking about gardens. As a legacy to the life and faithfulness of Ted Thexton, his children are offering to work with us to create a garden on the property which would grow fruits and vegetables to be used to support the community programs. This was one of our dreams that emerged in the Mission Forward process, and so the seeds of the dream are beginning to germinate. We are still working on the details and various classifications of gardens. Last week, I was signed up to go to a meeting, “How to start a Community Garden?”, but the cold and snow of winter meant it was cancelled. A Thexton Garden Project Group is being formed and if you would like to help with this please let me know.
There are lots of other seeds from the Mission Forward process that are finding ways of germinating and beginning to help us to re-focus our identity as a community of faith to find ways to be relevant in the community. Sort of reminds one of another line from In the Bulb – “from the past will come our future, what it holds a mystery”. So, let us be open to the mystery unfolding and have the courage to embrace what will be revealed.
